Canada Rasp donations

Post by Nicole »

If you use Canada Rasp to help with your flying decisions, consider making donation to its upkeep! You can find the donate button on any of the windgram pages.

Thanks for the reminder Nicole.
Just did that.

We are lucky to have such an excellent resource.

Not intending to hijack the thread, but I would like to ask about the RASP forecasting and here might be a good place.
Admin, do not hesitate to delete this if you feel it is in the wrong place.

I am aware of two different websites for things Rasp related.
One is Canada Rasp, the other is called TJ's Rasp.

TJ's seems to be much more "optimistic" in the forecasts than the Canada Rasp.

I was wondering why.
If both models use meteorological info for a certain region, then why do the two "Rasp Engines" turn out different forecasts?
Is it a case of differing algorithms used or does the regional meteorological data come from different sources?

What is the key reason for the common disagreement between the two sites?

I am sure Peter will correct me if this is wrong, but as I understand it from my conversations with Andrew and Peter, canada RASP isn't actually RASP anymore. It directly uses the HRDPS data and displays it in a RASPlike manner. TJ rasp takes a weather models (more than one or which one I am not sure) data and runs it through a rasp engine/algorithm and displays those results. As far as I know neither of them are initializing from raw meteorological data, but from forecast models.

This is why the results are different.
