Thanks Peter for doing this. Your airspace viewer seems to have different heights to the VTA though. It says 6000 around Woodside and 9000 over Bear. I thought both of these were 6500 and 9500? Yes the CYA 179 west of Woodside is 6000 but we are legit to 6500 right? In Pemby it's a bit more clear, t...

It looks to me like WGS 84 should be the map datum. Not sure why you suggested NAD 83 Jonathan. WGS 84 is very close in North America and most of the world and is the standard default for most instruments already. Now for point format, I'm not sure. Can someone point me to a webpage describing and e...

Good catch Jim, I too saw this in Jonathan's Incident report and thought it could use some discussion. GPS map datums and co-ordinate format confusion are a common problem and a good thing to learn about BEFORE you trying to give info to SAR. As far as I know using WGS 84 as the map datum around Nor...

If you are looking for witnesses I think Ihor saw some of the accidental deployment from the air. And Brock must have as well because he was the only pilot to land nearby and help out. Karma to Brock. He was first on the scene and then spent many hours getting SAR and the ambulance guys down to Jame...

Just another warning to folks about the altitude your instrument displays. What you see on your vario or GPS screen may not be what you download. So you may think your track will be legit for height restrictions and it won't. On Sunday I big ears and barred away from lift at 1960m over Woodside. My ...

I looked at your track log Matt: http://www.xcontest.org/world/en/flights/detail:jessonml/23.3.2012/21:08 and seeing as it shows Woody takeoff too high (1324m) and landing at Jim's also the same amount too high it corroborates your story. Thats weird never seen a GPS do that. Yeah get yourself a Fly...

The airspace issue is a fair comment by Martin. I've looked at my 35th edition Vancouver VTA. And as far as I can understand an obtuse and often changed document like this I was above the 6500 in the class C. I have taken my flight out of XContest Canada and the BCXC league. Its pretty standard that...

Thanks to some generous local pilots looks like we have a glider and flouro harness. Frighteningly I described the other martins "equipment"? Don't you have a Rush 3 that glides better than my old 2007 DHV 2-3 Martin? I'll trade you straight up. Now some nice weather coinciding with days o...

Looking for cheap kiting glider

A friend of mine is getting back into flying after some years away. He has not so much time and money this summer being a student. But he would love to get out kiting to get himself ready for when he has the money and time. If you have an old retired glider let me know. Un-airworthy or out of date g...

All four films for this Sunday Feb 12 evening look excellent. 1 Hanuman Airlines: Babu and Lakpa climb and fly tandem off Everest. Then they hike and paddle all the way to the sea. 2 I Believe I Can Fly (Flight Of The Frenchies) Incredible highlining from skyscrapers to Norway. 3 Red Bull Xalps 2011...
