We have another Woodside work party in the works!... Saturday October 22nd a group from the Hang community will be pressing on with more road work to improve access to launch. This weekend project will be to look at trying to recover the final grade down into launch. We will be attempting repairs and assessing more of the sand bag work done on the approach to the "Hump".
All are welcome, picks and shovels and the usual implements of "Mass Destruction" will be needed. We know its not the final solution but we will be trying to assess how well the sand bag system works for the worst of our road access to launch. (we have a 100 sand/dirt bags to fill!)
Sounds like it will be wet, so bring rain gear, we will start around 9-10 am.....
Cheers
Comrade Martin
Another Woodside Work Party!
Re: Another Woodside Work Party!
Really want to say thanks to all that turned up for the work party! With more hardware and tools then the garden section at a Home Depot, a big crew got the job done.
We have no idea how long the repair will last. If you consider that hardly any repair work has been done over the last 15 years Its hoped it will make things easier for at least next season.
There is more maintenance that is planned in the near future (the spur off of the main FSR for example) but at least for the Hang Gliding community, access that had been lost, is at least temporarily restored.
As discussed with several of the WCSC directors, there is a difficult balance to having access to our world class flying site and having the site turned into a public tourist destination (or party central for the jerks that want to destroy the place). If members have any thoughts on how to manage the site, please share your thoughts.

Was good to be out and doing something for the site!
I think that is we keep at it a few more times we will be able to secure the road for long time.
Now lets make sure they don't do to big cross ditches when the forest company stops removing trees
