Great video you can send your friends when they ask why you fly...

Funny how the imagery of chaos, hyperventilating head game comp crowds is matched to the narration of being "one" with the air in the open and limitless sky.... I have always found that crowds and congestion drain my sole and passion for this sport. Fortunately i get it all back on those days when my only flying partner is a bird or the empty sky at 8pm on final glide.

Philippe Broers does great video work but the question "why we fly" isn't quite captured in this Super Final video.

Of course, maybe if the question was "why do we fly comps"?... the narration would be spot on.

Cheers

If you take comps too seriously, yes I think you're right.

But if you think of them as simply flying with friends with retrieve and emergency vehicles on standby and look at it as primarily a learning experience, then you can very much capture the essence of flying during these events. Most of my spectacular flights have been during comps.

So many different reasons! Almost as many as pilots ;-)

BTW: The first, 8000+ by Antoine Girard, is showing at the Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival on Feb 22

For non-comp pilots it could be this:

or this:
