2023... Another Season....

Grumpy old Man here with some advice to the new (ish?) pilots in the area. Maybe your a couple years into the sport and your just itching to get some air time? Just got signed off? Maybe getting back in? You might even have taken delivery of your next new super wing? Your reading a bunch of stuff ov...

Re: Rookie of the Year 2022

Well the Paragliding Community spawns out students like a out of control puppy mill, I want to put forward a name for a Rookie Hang Glider pilot of the year.... This pilot demonstrated a safe attitude, advancing well with his skills, a real contributor to our Hang Gliding Community, a full member in...

Re: Road to Woodside Launch....

Thanks to those who contributed to recent road work on Woodside. Thought I would post a link to a similar topic that goes hand in hand with issues associated with back country use (and abuse). At Woodside the topic of a gate comes up in conversation to help reduce/control access to our launch. There...

Re: Another Woodside Work Party!

Really want to say thanks to all that turned up for the work party! With more hardware and tools then the garden section at a Home Depot, a big crew got the job done. We have no idea how long the repair will last. If you consider that hardly any repair work has been done over the last 15 years Its h...

Another Woodside Work Party!

We have another Woodside work party in the works!... Saturday October 22nd a group from the Hang community will be pressing on with more road work to improve access to launch. This weekend project will be to look at trying to recover the final grade down into launch. We will be attempting repairs an...

Re: Road to Woodside Launch....

As expected, the "Club" has done nothing to preserve/repair access to launch. (Should be noted that NONE of the road work up the mountain had anything to do with the Club... all FSR work by the logging operation, nothing more). On my only visit this year, the spur road from the primary FSR...

Re: end of an era? Airspace grab!

FYI, MR. Stockall acknowledged the letter and informs me it is being considered by the study group.

Re: end of an era? Airspace grab!

The proposal was selectively sent in the form of an Email to participants and user groups on a list. I'm not sure there is a online proposal outline that is considered "public". It would be inappropriate for myself to post the content. On the other hand, a director that is "on the lis...

"Safety Notice" Wills Wing Sport 3 Owners

The link below is a report on a control bar/keel junction failure on a Wills Wing Sport 3 (posted on OZ report). I don't believe this failure occurred without a substantial event having contributed to the failure. That said, I suggest it would be very important to inspect this area for any indicatio...

Re: Road to Woodside Launch....

I have avoided any further conversation on this forum and particularly the future of the site but, as "they say", I just can't help myself.... I saw in the last few comments the statement: "keep it low key".... Huh? Is this a suggestion that we should try and fly under the radar?...

Re: Midair between Cessna Caravan and paraglider

Another example of a network/service based system (Has some traction in the UK, gaining in Europe but heavily reliant on a support network).....

Re: Midair between Cessna Caravan and paraglider

That's tragic :| . Greater adoption of FLARM and FANET would prevent such accidents. Well scratching its way into the Euro environment, a magic black box for international use is a mess and highly unlikely. To be a true collision avoidance system it needs to be adopted by ALL of the participants. F...

Re: Road to Woodside Launch....

After my last post on this topic, I took a little time off to assess if there was any point trying to get the WCSC and the community to step up and take action to preserve the site. If you have not followed the thread, the general ideas being kicked around were to close the road into launch, cut off...

Re: Road to Woodside Launch....

Seriously?... there is no viable way in with the road at the entry to the hump removed. We tank trapped the slope up to launch, it worked. We post it, we close it.

Re: Road to Woodside Launch....

Looks like the best option is to just close the road, decommission it (Tank Trap the road) and block all vehicle access. Everybody walks in. This way we don't have to get any permission from anybody. Its not a FSR (it our trail and we can return it to its original condition). Everybody good with tha...
