Helmet cam: 83 year-old skydiver / PG student

'Just had to share this, from our friend Dr. Bill Harris in Hawaii. Bill is currently learning to paraglide ... the link is his view of a recent skydive where he came in a tad short (got friendly with some horses) on his landing. (He's no stranger to the air - 'used to fly jets in the Korean conflic...

'Anyone from the Coast going to the Lakeside Fly-in? I'm considering heading up (last minute thought), probably leaving tomorrow (Thursday) doing a flight somewhere (Coopers, Mara?) on Friday, then continuing on to Windermere ... Return would probably be on Monday (but I'm flexible). Let me know if ...

Oceanside, OR Fly-in, April 20-21

'Drove the miles down to Oceanside and had a great time, courtesy of the Cascade Paragliding Club. Flying was mostly limited to Saturday, with only about a one hour window in the afternoon that was soarable ... did a couple of sledders in addition to the soaring flight, trying my skills in the beach...

Easter Sunday, Revelstoke

'Outstanding day ... sunny, warm, blue thermals, paraglider-friendly resort (groomed launch, day pass for under $20). Lots of tips and assistance for a ski-launching newbie from Scott, Alan, and Chris (Revelstoke Paragliding). 'Great company (Emmanuel and the rest of the gang). 'Couldn't ask for mor...

It's interesting (and painful, as I am a member) that the USHPA dues have gone up $24 since last year ... increased claims is one of the reasons behind the safety campaign. "In 2012, USHPA's insurance premium effectively doubled due, in part, to increased claims activity. Insurance premium incr...

New USHPA safety emphasis

I just got a plastic card and red rubber bracelet in the mail from USHPA. The bracelet is embossed with "FOCUSED PILOT - USHPA," and is part of a new "Culture of Safety Awareness Campaign." One of the stated purposes of this initiative is "to curb the rising costs of acciden...

Very nice! I wish I'd been there ... instead of roasting in the Okanagan, on the day ...

BTW, Fedja, don't think we didn't all make note of the "big bucks" you acknowledge earning - I guess we now know who the next round is on at the Queen's Cross!

I've done the bike-Grind-gondola-bike circuit before, and can usually go door-to-door in roughly 3 hours (that's leaving out the Peak, and it depends on the timing of the gondola), but the wild card this time was definitely the gear - normally I'd go with only running shoes and t-shirt ... You can v...
