Re: Latest Android recommendations?...

Jason, Yes the developer (the flight vario app) seems interested in responding to input on his software. Early on adapted unit variables which I find useful. I ran into a few glitches with the audio vario becoming unstable (Samsung S20 and S7)... also found "Nav to Nearest" waypoint a bit ...

Re: Latest Android recommendations?...

When you mentioned E-Ink device, I thought we were going to discuss Android based cell phones. As I understand it, low power consumption, sunlight readability, internal sensors and able to run a flight app. The IGC thing apparently comes down to the manufacture submitting its file protocol to some s...

Re: Latest Android recommendations?...

If you use a Stodeus device, the data gets recorded on that device and produces FAI compliant files. Noting that Stodeus (https://www.stodeus.com/en/stodeus_paragliding_instruments_range/ ) is not on the CAT1 FAI list: chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/https://www.fai.org/sites/de...

Re: Latest Android recommendations?...

If I had to do it again, I'd go with an e-ink device with B&W screen and the latest device from Stodeus. As software I'd run See You Navigator. Does going with a E-ink device limit the option to have a complete stand alone recorder? (example, no internal GPS or sensors so you still need endure ...

Latest Android recommendations?...

What's the latest Android recommendation for instrumentation? How about the latest external device (Thinking BlueFly IGC and or....). I have used my old Samsung S7, screen was good, audio ok, but sadly the USB power jack is pretty iffy meaning I end up with a pretty suspect brick connection and can'...

Re: Weather stations

Again, I don't have a "hate-on" for these addictive gadgets, I just don't see them as being essential and especially if you take in the limit resources of the club (pretty much what you expect from a grumpy old man who has spent more than 45 years driving up Woodside to go "flying&quo...

Re: Weather stations

Admittedly I kind of enjoyed having the Zack-o-meter online to view some of the data that it could churn out during those spectacular weather events but again "Grumpy Martin" has to ask is it really worth getting the club hooked on what is essentially a disposable electronic devices? After...

Airworthiness Notice!

Airworthiness Notice! If you own a Wills Wing Glider, Any model, Please take time to inspect all of your rigging wires. Focus in particular, side wire cross bar Junction. Do not fly until you have inspected. (model of T2 an T3 are a priority). A recent post on facebook brought to light a side wire t...

Re: Brief History Video

Gerry!... Thanks..... it was an amazing amount of work to dig that far back into cobwebs of my brain to find all that stuff. Equally challenging, trying not to panic when I realized I was not going to be able to stick to the "script"... It was great to have a few of the old guard show up f...

Your Compass and Flying in Clouds....

Thought I would post this safety comment on the use of a compass for dealing with inadvertent flight in a cloud. The conversation started on another thread involving Transport Canada and the compass requirement (where I personally believe the use of the compass should be replaced with a "and or...

Re: PG Pilot progression questions

oh oh... was this a two liner question on Watts-App? The question now looks like your discussing a steady state in various conditions. From what I have gathered on the two liners is the cascades determine the shape of the wing, doubtful that all wings are made the same (cascade wise) so attempting t...

Re: 2023... Another Season....

Ah, since we are sharing video's...... I'm not qualified to pass on advice for paragliding but there is nothing stopping me from having an opinion! I've been flying hang's for 50 years. Funny part is, I have also been dabbling in the occasional bit of paragliding for nearly 15+ years. Enough to be c...
