Re: Spot Owners....

Thanks for posting the SPOT test procedure, good to know! I just read a blog on the accuracy of PBLs and they didn't come out all shiny. The post is from 2011, so things may have changed. The author (Northshore SAR member) describes that PBL rely on radio signal to get location fix and that is limit...

Extensive summary of PNW paragliding history by Lowell Skoog. Although focused on Washington you will find a few familiar names. http://www.alpenglow.org/paragliding/history/nw-chronology.html Article in Northwest Mountaineering Journal on early paragliding in the PNW http://www.alpenglow.org/nwmj/0...

Re: Why we fly...

So many different reasons! Almost as many as pilots ;-) BTW: The first, 8000+ by Antoine Girard, is showing at the Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival on Feb 22 For non-comp pilots it could be this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZsCQKK9vwu4 or this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLgbW...

InReach users... info for emergency contacts

If you use InReach make sure your emergency contacts don’t ignore calls from Texas (and know your itinerary and whom to call in an emergency)! Recent posts on South Coast Touring on FB point out that it took longer than necessary to activate SAR because InReach first tried to get in contact with the...

Advance LIGHTNESS 3 Safety Notice

From the Advance website: "The new XC light harness has attracted a lot of interest and we have already received much positive feedback. One flying school, however, has informed us that during reserve release tests in a harness hanger they found a configuration in which release is difficult – consid...

Colombia Roldanillo Airspace

Just a heads-up that there are some discussions about airspace in the Cauca valley (Roldanillo).
Looks like they are coming to some sort of agreement, but if I would plan a Colombia trip for next year I would wait until this is sorted out.

Bridal Falls/Archibald Gondola Proposal

An Archibald/Bridal gondola idea has been proposed before and then abandoned but just a heads up that there is a new proposal. Comment period for it ends on October 5, 2018. The map doesn't show our tenures for Bridal and Upper Bridal launches and I'm guessing the proponents are not aware of our exi...

Re: Spot Owners....

Another first-hand review of the SpotX: we just got back from a river trip in the NWT. The bush pilot who flew us into the headwaters of the Nahanni/Broken Skull uses it for communication and says it works fine.

Pemberton Landing Zones (and No-Landing Zones)

Cross-posting Dave A's info from FB to remind everybody of the no-landing zone 'Riverlands'. An image outlining this area has been added to the WSCS site description http://www.westcoastsoaringclub.com/sites/pemberton.php. Please take the time to familiarize yourself with this area before flying (an...
