The West Coast Soaring Club is proud to present its sixth annual festival of flight at the world-renowned Bridal Falls Flying Site.

The Bridal Falls Air Races will be open to hang glider and paraglider pilots, family, friends, and interested public. There will be lots of FUN competitions and challenges for pilots of all skill levels, including:

- Out & Return XCs
- Greatest Altitude & Longest Flight
- Kiting races, if conditions permit

along with other special surprise events and competitions!

Click here for much more information on the various planned competitions.

Where

Bridal Falls, located at the east end of the Fraser Valley, in south-western British Columbia, Canada, is an alpine site with multiple launches and LZs, excellent XC potential (up to 80 km out-and-return flights are possible), and stunning views of the coastal mountains and the Fraser Valley.  This time of year, flights of up to 2300 m AGL occur, and flying extends to 9 pm most days!  The primary LZ, located adjacent to the Trans Canada Highway 1, is 90 minutes from Vancouver, 30 minutes from Abbotsford (with its international airport, and US border crossing), and only 10 minutes from Chilliwack.

Extensive improvements have been made to the Bridal Falls lower launch in recent years. The launch is large and safe, and will be the primary launch for the event.  Frequent shuttles will run to lower launch throughout both days.

Tandem Flights

April 28, 2008 UPDATE:   As of April 28th, 2008, there are still lots of bookings available for tandem flights during BFAR.  Book now, because these will book up fast!

Discount Tandems

Tandem paraglider flights will be offered by our event cosponsors (local instructors and flying schools), at the greatly reduced rate of only $100 per flight!   Tandem flights are an excellent way for family, friends and interested future pilots to experience flight.  Click here for more information on tandem flights.

For more information or to book a tandem flight, contact Nicole McLearn (click here for contact info).  Note that tandem bookings are first-come, first-served.  Last year we had twice as many requests for flights than we had available booking slots, so book early!

Lots of non-flying activities will also be available, all within walking distance of the LZ, including:

- Special Rates at the nearby Trans-Canada Waterslides
- Internationally Famous Minter Gardens

Thanks to our sponsors, free drinks and snacks will be available all day at the event HQ.  The golf course bar is open all weekend, with a big party and steak BBQ slated for Saturday night (food included in your registration).

As of this posting, it appears that HPAC insurance (annual or temporary) is required for ALL pilots flying in Canada.  This includes American and foreign pilots.  Your USHGA insurance does NOT cover your flying in Canada.  Be prepared to show proof of current HPAC insurance, or to purchase either an annual HPAC membership, or a 90-day temporary one at the BFAR.  You can also purchase your HPAC membership online directly. See the HPAC website for more details.

Contact Nicole McLearn at (604) 224-6828, or any WCSC club director with your questions, to register, or for more information.   Also, feel free to browse the rest of the West Coast Soaring Club website.

See you there!
